No. You can only apply if you are enrolled in college in the fall when the scholarship is awarded. Remember that we issue the award checks to the educational institution, not to the winner's name. If you, however, have already paid your tuition for the fall when you are awarded the scholarship, you may request the check to be issued later (next semester or year); it does not have an expiration date, nor it does have to be cashed right away.

I will be in college a year from now. Can I apply "in advance"?

No. It is open to JFK employees and their children only.

Is the scholarship open to grandchildren or siblings of JFK employees?

No. You are only eligible to apply if either your parent is or you are currently working at JFK. Taxi or limo drivers are not per se employees of the airport. The best way to determine that is either SIDA or company badge which indicates that.

My parent(s) used to work at JFK. Can I apply?

Can I apply if one of my parents works at LaGuardia Airport?

No. Currently, we are accepting applications from JFK airport employees and/or their children only. There are companies associated with JFK, Newark and LaGuardia airports, though. In most cases the JFK (Port Authority) or other JFK badge would clear the uncertainty. Loose affiliation would not pass the eligibility test, e.g. children of taxi-drivers, who often pick up passengers at JFK.

No. Once you were awarded the scholarship, you are no longer eligible to apply.

I was awarded this scholarship before; can I apply again?

I filed my application in previous years and didn't win. Do I have to reapply this year?

Yes. Applications are non-transferable and are valid for one year only; that is why you would have to file your updated application only. We do, however, keep your references from last three years, so there is no need to resubmit these, unless you would like to use better/newer ones.

Is it possible for anyone to contribute to the scholarship?

When the scholarship will be awarded?

The official date for the 2023 Yolan J. DePhillips Memorial Scholarship Award Ceremony is to be determined at this time. It will, however, take place at Our Lady of the Skies Annual Luncheon, either at the end of September or the beginning of October 2023.

No. Religious affiliation or lack thereof has no impact on the application process. At no point of the application process we ask such questions.

Do I have to be Catholic to apply?

Is the scholarship for undergraduate programs only?

No. It is open to applicants seeking undergraduate or graduate programs at any college-level educational institution in the United States.
